An action scene is meant to pin the audience down to the edge of their seats and then keep them there. Chase scenes are among the most delightful of action scenes because they require such prepared choreography. Locations change, the music dramatizes and the physical strength of the actors are on full display. The escape scene from SKYFALL follows JAMES BOND (Daniel Craig) hunting down SILVA (Javier Bardem) from the prison compounds of MI6 to the London Underground subway to the cement tunnels further underground.
The scene is just a little over nine minutes and keeps your heart speeding like a race car. BOND and SILVA are literally cat and mouse throughout the film but this scene plays with BOND’S psyche. If it is the mouse that has the upper hand, then who is whom at this point? Thomas Newman’s Oscar nominated score hovers over the two characters in their race against the clock until SILVA is finally out of sight but in no way, free. SKYFALL has many enjoyable scenes but this one is a riveting turning point in which there will be no returns - only retributions. Heart pulsating, blood pressure rising, moments of hyperventilating. You can’t help but become a participant in the deadly chase. Hold on!
Borrow, buy, rent, or stream “Skyfall” however, whenever, wherever you can.
